SUNDAY HUNTING ALLOWED IN NEW JERSEY, PA RESIDENCE BUY LICENSE

June 2018 - PA RESIDENCE BUY NEW JERSEY HUNTING LICENSE - SUNDAY HUNTING ALLOWED IN NEW JERSEY

From: Michael Thomas, Leadership Group, Hunters United For Sunday Hunting
To:  Harold  Daub, Executive Director, Hunters United For Sunday Hunting

Subject: NJ hunting license sales to PA

Harold,

Over three thousand PA residents buy NJ hunting licenses every year. They are sold by calendar year (that's why the numbers for 2018 are low, they would be much higher if it was August).

I didn't think that many PA residents hunted there. If Jersey is this high, the other states are even higher.

Hope this helps, the attachment is at the bottom as a PDF file.

Thanks,

Michael Thomas

Michaels conversation with New Jersey Fish and Wildlife Department:

Hi, I am a resident of Pennsylvania doing a research project on hunting.
Is there anyway I could find out how many non resident adult hunting licenses and non resident junior hunting licenses were sold to Pennsylvania residents over the last few years?
I don't need any personal information either just some general numbers.
If you don't have access to this, would the information be available online or from another source?
Thank You,
Michael Thomas

New Jersey Fish and Wildlife:
Information on the number of non-resident licenses sold is available at http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/license_sales.htm .  For a breakdown by state, and for the number of free Nonresident Youth Licenses issued, our licensing staff would need to sort some data I do not have access to.  I will forward your message to licensing supervisor Patty Teixeira requesting the information – but for what time frame?  The “last few years” isn’t specific – is three years enough?

Michael Thomas:
The last three years would be fine. I am a hunter in Pennsylvania trying to help get Sunday hunting passed in my own state.

I know a lot of people who hunt exclusively in New Jersey (who are from PA) because you can bow hunt on Sundays in WMAs and private property with permission. This doubles the hunting days for most working families. We know NJ is not a gun friendly state and with the population density, archery keeps a lot of people happy.
If you could get me the last three years of people from PA who bought a form of a hunting license I would be grateful.
Thanks again,
New Jersey Fish and Wildlife:
Attached is a multi-year report with total number of PA Residents on file who purchased NonResident NJ hunting licenses.

MR. HAROLD DAUB & MS. KAREN ANDERSON (D)

June 2018
Correspondence between Executive Director Harold Daub & Ms. Karen Anderson (D) currently running for Pa State Representative for District 86, Cumberland Co. & Perry Co.

Hello Ms. Anderson,

I am the executive director of the grassroots organization Hunters United for Sunday Hunting.

I would like to ask for your position on my organization’s mission: we seek to have the prohibitive language currently found in PA Title 34 Game Law removed, which will result in the transfer of full regulatory authority of wildlife management to the PA Game Commission.

We believe that the PGC is our subject matter experts on wildlife management and should be evaluating and making wildlife management decisions 7 days of the week.

Do you have a position on this topic?

Best regards,

Harold Daub

Ms. Anderson:
Good Morning, Mr. Daub, and thank you for reaching out to me. As a farmer and proud member of the PA Farm Bureau, I stand with them on this issue. I fully support hunting and the role hunters play in managing wildlife in the state. Although this Q&A sheet is dated, it explains the Farm Bureau and my stance on the topic of Sunday Hunting: https://www.pfb.com/images/stories/QandA-sunday-hunting.pdf. Thank you.
Karen Anderson

Mr. Daub:
Thank you for the quick reply. I’m sorry we are not in agreement on Sunday hunting. I wish you the best of luck in your campaign.

Ms. Anderson:
Thank you very much. It's refreshing to converse with someone not ready for an argument!

From Robert
Hello...I'm not from PA but I have family in PA and I archery hunt there as often as I can and I'm all for Sunday hunting...Especially when I travel 5 hours and spend a couple hundred dollars to hunt for 4-5 days and have to sit around on Sundays which a few times happened to be the nicest day we were there...

SOCIAL MEDIA CONVERSATION - SUNDAY HUNTING

A SOCIAL MEDIA CONVERSATION REGARDING SUNDAY HUNTING - MAY 2018

“I think a lot of people in this state aren’t aware that hunters are the only people paying for wildlife management in Pennsylvania,” [Askew] said. “Everyone enjoys wildlife, but hunters are the only ones paying the bills.”
As an independent state agency, the Game Commission does not receive any tax revenues from the state’s General Fund. It is funded primarily by the sale of hunting licenses.

.... Wow. I did not know this.

whalermosin
Pittman Robertson tax at the Federal level as well, a special tax on guns, ammo, bows, crossbows and hunting goods created to preserve wildlife, land for hunting and hunter education courses provided by states for free.

As a non-hunting hiker, this would negatively affect me, since I like to have one day during the week in the fall where I’m not sharing the woods with people with guns.
That being said, I have no more right to these woods than anyone else, and it’s just silly to not allow hunting on Sundays. Hunting is largely a family activity, and people shouldn’t have to take days off of work and pull their kids out of school to enjoy it.
We’re only talking about a handful of days during the year anyway, and I’ll just suck it up and wear some orange.

I like your rational thought to this. From a hunter....thank you.

whalermosin
I do not think there is reason to be paranoid about being shot while hiking on state lands in PA. If you are hiking on WMAs wear an orange vest during season. There have been almost no incidents on WMAs in the last 20 years for hikers being shot by a hunter. Also, chances are, hikers are sharing the woods with people with firearms all year round.

Yes. Gamble all you want. Drink all you want. Just don't buy a car or hunt anything besides crow, coyote, and fox. Backwards ass PA blue laws.
